]]> Human trafficking has been placed in the spotlight on social media because of hashtags like #SaveOurChildren, #SaveOurKids, #SexTrafficAwareness. This has led to many people becoming passionate about tackling the issue of trafficking, sexual abuse, online exploitation and injustice in our world. Spreading awareness and becoming passionate about a worthy issue is a good thing, and can be a helpful thing. But, sometimes, we can unintentionally do harm in our effort to help.

Our Executive Director Jennifer White sat down virtually with Wichita Police Department Chief of Police Gordon Ramsay to talk about the changes that have already happened, are happening now, and still need to happen within the police force and the Wichita community produce positive changes.

Chief Ramsay was appointed as the Wichita Police Chief in January 2016. Since arriving in Wichita, he has focused on pushing officers closer to the communities they serve, building relationships, increasing the use of technology, and reducing crime. He has successfully worked with our community to create Wichita’s civilian review board and focuses on de-escalation, communication, and tactics to lower use of force incidents.

She is a Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist who provides trauma-informed Individual, Couple and Family Therapy. "Real Life Counseling clinicians, in partnership with ROSE, Inc. (Reach Out 2 Someone Else, Inc.), are offering 6 free therapy sessions to those affected by racial tensions in our country. Many are struggling with grief over recent events, or live in fear of future violence and unrest. Others would like to understand their own reactions and/or how they can contribute to peace and reconciliation. Mr. Rogers continues to inspire us and the helpers in our community. His T.V. show, Mister Rogers Neighborhood, captured the hearts of kids and adults all over the world. But it wasn't just an entertaining show, built on fostering connection and childhood development, Mister Rogers Neighborhood pioneered educational television giving children a safe place to be belong and learn.

Back in November 2019, ICT S.O.S. held a special private screening of A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood celebrating some of the helpers in Wichita. We interviewed helpers during the event to find out what they loved about Mr. Rogers and why they decided to become a helper. Liz Upton, MSW and Jennifer White discuss the life of Mr. Rogers and his pioneering work.
