About ICT S.O.S.

ICT S.O.S. is a Wichita-based organization that acts as a liaison between specific local professional organizations who work with trafficked youth and the Wichita volunteers who seek ways to get involved and to find solutions! By connecting local agencies with volunteers and resources, we help facilitate their missions.

The issue of sexual exploitation is a tender subject and members of these agencies are professionals who are trained to deal with the situations and needs of this under-served population.

There is rising desire in the Wichita community to contribute to the solution. ICT S.O.S. is the go-to source for both the agencies and the volunteers as needs arise and the desire grows to become involved.

We invite you to help create real and lasting change in our city!

Why Wichita?

“Wichita sits near the crossroads of the nation’s sex-trafficking highway.

‘The pimps have routes they travel… and they include I-35 and I-70,’ – police Officer Kent Bauman of the Wichita-Sedgwick County Exploited and Missing Child Unit.

Police have documented known pimps recruiting girls as young as 12 from Wichita and selling them for sex across the nation, Bauman said.

History

Founded by Jennifer White, ICT S.O.S. is a grassroots organization born from an article in The Wichita Eagle written by Ron Sylvester, the story of a 13 year old girl being sold for sex was heartbreaking and devastating.

After meeting with the Street Outreach team at the Wichita Children’s Home, a donation drive was organized and a call went out for volunteers. Wichita answered in a big way!

Along the way we’ve hosted a freeze mob (pictured above), and the Twitter hash tag #ictsos was born. From there, ICT S.O.S. has grown and become its own entity. The “SOS” in the hash tag stood for Street Outreach Services. While we work closely with them, ICT S.O.S. has grown to include several other local agencies working together to fight sexual exploitation and trafficking of children in our city.

Just as S.O.S. is a distress signal or call for help,  ICT S.O.S. broadcasts a cry for help for our city’s endangered youth.

How It All Began

Before the organization took on a life of its own, Jennifer started with a few posts on her blog. Here are some links back to the beginning:
