ICT S.O.S. is hosting a Volunteer Roundtable on Tuesday May 17th at 6pm at Mead’s Corner (Douglas & Emporia)

This meeting will cover topics such as the mission of ICT S.O.S., an outline of the agencies who are currently involved in the fight against human trafficking & sexual exploitation, an outline of current needs and opportunities, and a chance to brainstorm other ideas.

The goal of this meeting to to identify several core categories of need and create committees led by a chairperson for each category. Each person should leave this meeting having plugged in to one (or more) committees with a clear goal to move forward on a specific topic.

The last few minutes of the meeting will also include a short briefing for any volunteers planning to help with the EMCU RV during Riverfest. Those volunteers will be asked to stay, others will be excused to go if they wish.

This will NOT be a meeting to sit around and talk…this is a meeting about DOING! Bring a notebook, any amazing ideas and all of your talents. We can’t wait to see what this group can DO for our community’s most vulnerable members!

WHY we do it

When all of the hoopla first started for the donation drive, I got a Facebook message that absolutely solidified for me that we were doing the right thing. In fact it brought me to tears when I read it. With the permission of the person who sent it, on the condition on anonymity, I’d like to share it here.

Jennifer,

I think what you are doing is absolutely wonderful. When I was a homeless teenager, Street Outreach was the only organization that ever tried to help me. I have long since lived with the mistaken view that Wichitans care little for the homeless community. Thank you so much for proving me wrong!

I knew it was important to raise awareness in the community. I hadn’t thought yet that what we were doing might bring a message of hope to kids living on the street that might hear about our efforts. As important as funds and supplies are, HOPE is even more important. If we can show these “invisible” kids that we know they’re out there and we’re fighting for them…maybe we can give them a little hope. Hope that they’re not forgotten, that they’re not bad kids, that they’re not unwanted or unworthy of love. What a gift that would be!

Volunteer Opportunity- River Festival

By | Volunteers | No Comments

The Wichita Children’s Home, along with the Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit, helps staff the EMCU RV during the Wichita River Festival. This is the “Lost & Found” for kids who get separated from their parents during the festival activities.

WCH & ICT S.O.S. are looking for volunteers to help man the RV during key times of the festival when they tend to get busiest.

In order to volunteer, you need to have been through volunteer orientation at WCH. If you missed the April orientation, the next one is Tuesday May 3rd at 6pm at WCH. Please call Beth at WCH to sign up. 316-684-6581

Available times during the festival:

June 3rd: 6-10:30pm

June 4th: 9am-10:30pm

June 5th: 11am-9:30pm

June 6th: 5:30-10:30pm

June 7th: 5:30-10:30pm

June 8th: 5:30-10:30pm

June 9th: 5:30-10:30pm

June 10th: 5:30-10:30pm

June 11th: 10am-10:30pm

You can sign up for a 2 or 4 hour block of time during any of these available time slots. If interested, please email info@ictsos.org with your preferred volunteer times.

This will be a great opportunity to meet the staff of Street Outreach as well as EMCU officers. It will also help to create community awareness. (We *may* have snazzy T-Shirts by then!)

The Student Council at Andover Middle School is hosting a week-long donation drive to help homeless and exploited teens. Proceeds from the drive will benefit Wichita Children’s Home’s Street Outreach. All of the items will be collected and delivered Friday April 15th.

A little sidewalk chalk is always a great way to get the word out!
